Regional and Global Axes of Conflict
Download a brochure on this research theme
The ways in which states are connected to each other through regional and broader international systems has had a profound impact on patterns of state resilience and state fragility in the developing world. The Centre is studying how regional and global institutions and axes of conflict affect processes of state collapse and reconstruction.
A major project on
Regional Organisations, Peace and Security
is being undertaken for this research theme. Full details are
available here.
The Centre's partner at Universidad Nacional Bogota is also undertaking a macro-level study under this theme. Their study is investigating the way in which phenomena such as military interventions are coded and how differences in classification can produce radically different outcomes. The study combines the use of quantitative tools with a reflection on the conceptual and methodological robustness of standard methodologies. The Centre intends to extend this work by applying the reflective-methodological approach to a new study on fragile states indices.
